Long, dense, and full dark eyelashes, without any mascara? What sounds like a dream, especially for very light eyelashes, can easily become reality: with eyelash tint, which stays on our lashes not just for a few hours, but for a whole 2–3 weeks.
Of course, we can regularly visit our beautician for this. Or, we can take the tint and developer cream into our own hands and tint our eyelashes ourselves.

Why tint eyelashes? Reasons why we love permanent color on our lashes
Do you like swimming or going to the sauna? Is your lifestyle very active, whether at the gym, jogging, or yoga, and you are found where movement is a big deal? One reason why permanent eyelash tint can be a real gain for you! Those who do a lot of sports, sweat a lot, and like to be in the water know it all too well: regular mascara eventually smudges and spreads all over the face. Waterproof mascara is an option. Unfortunately, removing waterproof mascara every evening is no fun at all. Since it is made for situations where we really sweat, its texture adheres more stubbornly to our lashes than regular mascara. Even those who don’t want to swim without makeup in the pool or at the beach can relate. While waterproof mascara keeps our lashes in shape long-term (and naturally gives them that sexy, dark color for a stunning look), the nightly removal is not exactly a favorite task.
Waking up long-term with beautiful, dark, and defined lashes in the morning without having to spend much time styling them afterward is one of the main reasons many women opt for permanent eyelash tint. Looking good during sports or in the sauna without having to remove makeup beforehand or redo eye makeup afterward is another good reason to tint your lashes yourself. But even those without a sporty lifestyle who are annoyed by irregular eyelash tint and faded lash tips and simply want to get more out of their natural lashes can definitely benefit from the eyelash treatment: because by tinting the lashes evenly from root to tip, they appear healthier, fuller, longer, and smoother. The extra volume is, of course, only visual. As the color fades, the extra lash density it gave us disappears as well. The right curl cannot be given by eyelash tint either. For the extra sexiness, definition, and length, you also need a lash serum for lash thickening and lengthening, eyelash curler, curlers, and more.
Tinting eyelashes at the professional?

When the beach vacation is within reach, many women with light lashes swear by eyelash tinting at the professional. Also in the stormy winter months, when snow and wind quickly ruin our eyelash styling, a color on the lashes that lasts and lasts is a real gain.
The advantage of a professional treatment?
During the treatment, we can relax with the prospect of a perfect result. Light lashes are professionally tinted deep black, velvety dark blue, or rich brown, including advice on the right color choice.
The disadvantages?
Regular visits to the professional take a lot of time and cost money. Since most beauticians also require a patch test beforehand (more on that later), spontaneous sessions are rather not possible.

Tinting your own lashes: Which color suits me?
The decision is made: the next visit to the beautician will be skipped because we can tint our eyelashes ourselves! But which color should it be in the end? The selection of eyelash tint is now large. Many women with light or very light lashes want a strong effect and then choose dramatic black for the most striking makeover. However, black can often be too harsh, and another shade can provide a much more professional and suitable look. Have you ever thought of blue-black, granite, or chestnut brown for your own lashes? Blue-black is the most popular, followed by brown tones, copper red, and bright blue shades. These colors can make the eyes look more awake, yet softer at the same time.
Do’s and Don’ts when tinting eyelashes: what you absolutely should consider
Still have some hair dye left from the last DIY session? If you think you can quickly tint your eyelashes yourself with it, you are unfortunately wrong.
Hair dye for scalp hair often contains ingredients that can irritate the sensitive mucous membranes of the eye. Also, hair dye packages do not provide the necessary materials to safely tint eyelashes on the sensitive eyelid. That is why there are tinting kits designed not only to make the tinting process easier but also safer. Ophthalmologically and dermatologically tested eyelash tint is now available in every drugstore. What you should definitely do, especially if you have sensitive skin: perform a so-called patch test 48 hours beforehand to check if you tolerate the treatment products at all. Apply a small amount of the color and developer solution to an inconspicuous area of the body.
Another don’t: wearing contact lenses while tinting eyelashes. Can’t see without contact lenses? Then better ask your best friend for help with your DIY tinting project. Since you keep your eyes closed during the treatment, this can dry out the lenses and irritate the eye. Also, you should wait a while after the treatment before putting the contact lenses back in.
Tinting your own lashes: The three biggest myths
There are persistent rumors about eyelash tinting that everyone has heard at some point. One of the most persistent myths? Tinting eyelashes causes lashes to fall out! Numerous beauty experts have now confirmed that this is not true. The origin of this myth lies in hair dyeing. When dyeing scalp hair, up to 10% strong hydrogen peroxide is often added to the hair dye. This is no problem for healthy hair, but repeated hair dyeing can be a real strain on the hair. The hydrogen peroxide content in the paste applied to the eyelashes is minimal and contains a maximum of 1%. The eyelash tint is therefore much gentler and milder than hair dye for the scalp. Treatment with (dermatologically tested!) eyelash tint is generally well tolerated. Another myth about eyelash tinting is that mascara can no longer be applied to tinted lashes. But this is also false, as lashes can be styled as usual shortly after tinting. Eyelash tint usually also works well with an eyelash perm, which gives lashes a long-lasting sexy curl.

And here’s how: Tinting your own lashes made easy

Step 1: Cover your workspace with newspaper! What initially sounds funny and a bit exaggerated is actually a small but effective effort to protect the bathroom, floor, sofa, etc. from color stains. Especially during your first self-tinting attempts, you should not only give your workspace some preparation time.
Clean even if you are not wearing makeup. Your lashes should be absolutely dry and free of grease. Then apply a little Vaseline or another fatty cream to the rough side of the supplied crescent-shaped pads and stick them with the greased side directly under the lashes on the lower lid. These pads prevent the color from getting on the skin. Caution: the cream should not get on the lashes, as it would form a greasy film on which the color cannot work well.
Then squeeze about 2 cm of color from the tube and mix it with about 10 drops of developer solution or about 15 drops of developer cream with a stick into a thick paste. This paste should be applied to the lashes immediately after mixing. Close one eye and apply the color to the lashes with a stick or a brush that is not too soft, keeping the eye closed. The lashes should be completely covered with color. Let the color work for 5–10 minutes. The longer you leave the color on, the more intense the result.
Remove the excess color with a cotton pad and water. If this is too complicated, you can also use a color gel right away. This does not need to be mixed and is applied like mascara without any prior procedure. Again, carefully stick the supplied pads with some fatty cream under the lower lashes. Then apply the color gel to the lashes with the included brush. Let the color gel work for 2 minutes, or 4 minutes for a more intense result.
After the processing time, remove the excess color with a cotton swab. Now there is one more step: apply the supplied developer gel to the lashes with the included applicator. If the lashes suddenly look very dark, don’t be alarmed: the developer gel only reacts with the previously applied color; the final result is not negatively affected. Let the developer gel work for about 4 minutes and then remove everything with a cotton pad and warm water. The result? Dark and denser-looking lashes for up to three weeks and hooray!
Conclusion: Those who tint their lashes themselves save money and can expect an excellent result.
