Megatrend Magnet Wimpern - nur wie bringt man sie an?

Megatrend Magnet Wimpern - nur wie bringt man sie an?

Megatrend "Magnetic Eyelashes" – but do they really deliver what they promise?

Just when you think you know every eyelash trend and every beauty hack by heart, the next (surprising) beauty highlight appears: magnetic clip-on eyelashes are currently the latest craze on Instagram and beyond. Two eyelash strips with one or more magnets are clipped simultaneously from above and below onto your own lashes. Eyelash volume like Kim Kardashian in seconds without glue or anything else? Sounds simply dreamy!

Magnetic eyelashes – is the trend worth it?

But after a quick check of beauty bloggers on YouTube, it becomes clear: applying magnetic eyelashes is unfortunately not as dreamily simple as it sounds. While applying fake lashes already required absolute finesse, it is even more difficult with magnetic lashes due to the unfamiliar handling. Magnetic eyelashes made easy? Or not? In this blog, you will learn everything about "magnetic eyelashes," how to apply them, and whether it’s worth investing in this trend.

What are magnetic eyelashes?

Magnetic eyelashes are artificial lashes made from high-quality synthetic hair or sometimes real animal hair. Magnetic eyelashes differ from the artificial lashes we usually glue onto our natural lashes in only one point: their bands have small, square magnets that make glue unnecessary.

Magnetic eyelashes – what they are and how to apply them

For each eye, there are two eyelash strips equipped with one or two magnets – one is placed on the upper lash line, the other is connected from below with the magnet of the upper strip. With a clip, the two magnets connect and thicken our own lashes, which lie in a kind of eyelash sandwich between the two strips. What sounds very simple, however, requires practice and patience: since the lashes are not glued on gradually as we are used to, it takes several attempts at first until the upper strip is really placed where it should be. This does not mean the procedure is finished yet: after the upper strip with the magnetic lashes is positioned perfectly, the lower one must be positioned accordingly and connected with the magnets.

How to find out which eyelash strip belongs where:

Magnetic eyelashes consist of two pairs of artificial eyelash strips. Two of them are placed on the upper sides of the lashes, two on the undersides. Distinguishing magnetic eyelash pairs is very easy: if the magnet sits ON TOP of the band with the lashes, it belongs under the lashes; if it sits UNDER the lash band, it belongs on top of the lashes.

Magnetic eyelashes or fake lashes?

Anyone who regularly glues fake lashes onto their own lashes knows: it takes some time until the lashes sit properly, and meanwhile, you might pull out one or more lashes from your lash line. This is not only annoying (after all, we cherish every single lash), but can lead to real lash loss over time.

Magnetic eyelashes take a completely different approach here: no glue is used, just gentle clipping. The magnetic closure can be easily opened and closed and is therefore overall gentler than the sticky lash glue. Lash glue can cause allergic reactions such as redness, itching, and watery eyes. Glue residues that stick unpleasantly to the eye days later? That’s a thing of the past now.

How to apply magnetic eyelashes?

Applying magnetic eyelashes – made easy?

Magnetic eyelashes are a good alternative for everyone who no longer wants to rely on glued lashes. Still, applying magnetic lashes requires practice. Often, several attempts are needed for a perfect result.

All you need is a set of magnetic eyelash strips (you need four in total – two for each eye, one on top, one below) and a pair of tweezers. Ideally, these should be made of plastic, as a conventional metal tweezer will connect with the magnet and can be very annoying when applying magnetic lashes. Many people don’t know how to apply magnetic lashes without stressing their own lashes or ending up with an unnatural result.

How to apply magnetic eyelashes? Here’s how:

1. Curl your lashes with an eyelash curler and then apply mascara in the color of the artificial lashes. Apply black eyeliner as close as possible to your lash line, which will visually merge with the band of the magnetic lashes later. Your eye makeup should already be finished before you start applying the magnetic lashes.

2. Remove the magnetic lashes from the package and bend them back and forth a little until they roughly take the shape of your eyelid. The stiffer they are, the harder they are to apply.

3. Pick up the lash strip that will be placed on top of your natural lashes (the one with the magnet underneath the band) with the plastic tweezers and hold the strip that belongs under the lash line (magnet on top) with your other hand.

4. Place the upper magnetic lash strip as close as possible to your natural lash line while positioning the lower strip also as close as possible to your lash line. When you feel the magnets snap together, the magnetic lashes are secure. Your natural lashes are now clamped in a kind of "lash sandwich" in between.

5. Now gently (!!) slide the lash strip into position with your fingers (or tweezers) until the lashes sit very close to your lash line and it is no longer visible. The magnetic lashes should also sit so that they blend harmoniously into your eye area. If they don’t?

If you are not convinced by the result:

If the magnetic lashes sit too far from the lash line, are overall crooked, or the result is too voluminous for you, remove the magnetic lashes and trim them with scissors. Often it is enough to cut a little off the ends. Since the band is shorter overall, magnetic lashes are easier to apply and the result looks more natural. Be careful not to cut the magnet or too much of the lash band.

Applying magnetic lashes? Done. Removing magnetic lashes? Here’s how: While glued lashes must be carefully and tediously removed from the lash line, magnetic lashes are removed by pulling the two magnets apart. To do this, slightly stretch the eyelid and lift the two magnets along with the lash strips away from each other.

How long do magnetic lashes last?

How long magnetic lashes last

Magnetic lashes can be worn not just once but up to 40 times before they need to be discarded. However, this is only the case if you clean and store them properly: magnetic lashes must be thoroughly cleaned after each use! The best way is with a gentle eye makeup remover and a lint-free cotton pad.

What are the advantages and disadvantages?

Magnetic eyelashes come with many advantages – and also many disadvantages.

Advantages:

ï Those who suffer from allergies and experience irritation and reactions from gluing fake lashes will consider magnetic lashes a gift from heaven, as glue and similar products are now simply eliminated.

ï Since magnetic lashes can be worn repeatedly with good care, they are a beauty investment that pays off.

ï Magnetic lashes are also an environmental win: while conventional glued fake lashes generate a lot of packaging waste, this is not the case with magnetic lashes. Some manufacturers even deliver magnetic lashes in a stylish storage box, which is very suitable for long-term preservation.

ï Once you get the hang of it, you can create real wow volume on your own lashes in just a few seconds.

ï Magnetic lashes come in many varieties, from "natural" for a daytime look to "triple drama" for the next party. This way, it suddenly becomes possible to impress with fake lashes easily at any time of day or night.

Disadvantages:

ï Really good magnetic lashes are expensive and can cost up to 50 euros. A price that can be quite demanding on a small budget.

ï Bad news also for all vegans and animal lovers: the expensive versions of magnetic lashes are sometimes made from mink. For those who place great value on animal- and cruelty-free products, this is a real no-go.

ï Many beauty bloggers and editors who enthusiastically tried magnetic lashes report unnatural-looking results because the artificial lash band and sometimes even the magnet itself are visible.

ï Applying magnetic lashes is not really easy. Many report massive difficulties handling magnetic lashes. Magnetic lashes? Too cumbersome, too stiff, too long, too voluminous – complaints range from the texture of the magnetic lashes and the (complicated application) to the unnatural-looking result.

ï Although magnetic lashes come in many shapes, it is still not easy to find the right look that fits your eye shape and time of day.

ï The magnetic lash band is sometimes so difficult to place close to the lash line that there is always a small gap from the lash line, and the transition from your own lashes to the magnetic lashes is clearly visible.

ï Besides the sometimes very complicated application, the biggest downside is probably also the biggest upside due to its innovative power: the magnet makes magnetic lashes a beauty tool with real classic potential. However, it is almost impossible to apply the lashes so that the magnet is truly invisible. Achieving this result sometimes requires a lot of effort to trim the band to the right length and to visually "sink" the shorter band along with the magnet into your own lashes. Since many magnetic lashes only have a single magnet, it is difficult to place it so that the lash band on the magnet-free side does not stick out uncontrollably. Many are also bothered that the magnet is sometimes in their field of vision and thus becomes really annoying over time.

How much do magnetic lashes cost?

Magnetic lashes are now available from as little as 5 euros at drugstores, with the most expensive costing up to 50 euros. The quality becomes noticeable especially in the result: magnetic lashes that cost very little often look cheap and oddly stiff. It is also difficult to maintain very cheap magnetic lashes long-term because they do not withstand as much as expensive magnetic lashes. Often, cheap magnetic lashes are equipped with only one magnet. This is not very helpful for applying magnetic lashes because the side of the lash strip without a magnet can only be fixed poorly or not at all. Removing magnetic lashes works best with two magnets, one on each side.

Magnetic lashes that cost relatively more have the advantage of lasting long and producing a luxurious result that looks like real Hollywood glamour. However, it is advisable to read carefully what the magnetic lashes are made of: expensive magnetic lashes can (for an extra natural and super luxurious result) also be made from mink.
